WhatDomain.org New gTLD Awareness
Formed in January, the Domain Name Association is comprised of leaders in the domain industry to act as a unified voice for the interests of the domain name industry.
“For too long the domain name industry has relied on ICANN to defend our commercial interests, even though this is not ICANN’s responsibility,” said Adrian Kinderis, Chair of the Interim Board of the Domain Name Association. “The formation of the Domain Name Association reflects a maturation of our industry in the corporate sphere and presents a united front in the promotion of domain names as the primary tool for users to navigate the internet.” The WhatDomain.org website is the first measure in this effort
Just yesterday, the group announced former ICANN New gTLD Director Kurt Pritz to lead the organization as interim chair, replacing Mr. Kinderis.
The group’s mission statement is to “promote the interests of its members by advocating the use, adoption, and expansion of domain names as the primary tool for users to navigate the Internet.”
Membership prices range from $1,000 to $50,000, Founding members include Google Demand Media, Donuts, FairWinds Partners, Go Daddy, Google, Momentous, ARI Registry Services, and United TLD. More firms are expected to come on board during the ICANN Buenos Aires meeting.
